Movie Opener Final Cut

Image
https://youtu.be/pCNuDmDEOYI  We made it! This is the final cut of my movie opener. After reading through my peer reviews, and after careful consideration I decided to completely redo my opener, and change the genre to a documentary instead of an action movie. I did this because I had trouble coming up with a plot for an action movie since I only had myself and my friend to work with. I could also incorporate more dialogue this way, as a documentary focuses a lot on dialogue. This made our opportunities for shooting very limited.  I decided t make an opening to a documentary about a girl that has a Diet Coke addiction. In the opening scene I interview Kayla, her doctor, and Kayla's grandmother.

Evaluating Peer Reviews

Film #4 Peer Reviews Summary & What I learned: While my film had good editing techniques, incorporated several different camera angles, music and sound effects, my peers felt that my movie opener lacked a plot, failed to meet the time requirement, and left them feeling like it was more of a trailer than a opener to a movie itself. My peers suggested that my final draft include more dialogue, that it should be longer,  focus on making it look more of an opener rather than a trailer, adding context to the clips, and making the storyline more clear. I enjoyed reading my peer reviews and found them helpful. I knew that it was on the shorter side, so I expected comments about that. I feel that I was a little confused on how to come up with the video, so it came off as more of a trailer than a movie opening scene. As a result, I have decided to take that information and start completely over with my opener. I will take into consideration my peer reviews and come back with a ...

Weeks 6-7 Editing

Image
Week One/Post One:  Starting to Edit During the first week of editing I had decide what software I wanted to edit on. I chose to edit my movie opener with iMovie because I have the most experience editing on there. Jess and I pieced together the best clips from filming, but ran into some problems during this process. Some of the clips from filming were way to short and I know I wanted to keep my opener short and sweet because it is an action movie opener. I did not want to give too much away, but I wanted enough film for the audience. I ended up having to chop up some of the scenes and sequencing them in different places of the film to make it seem longer. I added music and sound effects to make the opener more interesting. The idea of the opener was someone anticipating a text that lets them know its go time, followed with kind of a car chase. I tried to incorporate several different types of editing techniques like cuts and transitions but since I am still new to this, they are n...

Weeks 4 and 5 Filming

Image
BLOG POST ONE: Lights, Camera, Action! This is Jess and I prepping to film the opening shot of the iPhone. This was a fun first take and we got to share a few laughs shooting this. We used Jess's phone as the prop because we were shooting on my phone. We realized Jess's wallpaper was not appropriate for the action vibe we were trying to give off with the opening scene. We had to change the picture a few times until we really found the one we liked. Jess was a big help during all of this because we had to improvise at the last minute. The other person we were going to film with unfortunately got Corona so Jess and I had to come up with a new plot and we just had each other to film and act.  This is me taking a water break because it was so hot outside, but this hoodie is my favorite so I kept it on. This is where we started to film the driving scenes which took place in the parking lot of my complex. I had some props with me, aka my Nerf or nothing blaster. Seconds after this...

Preparing to Film

This week in preparation to film for this project there were a lot of things I had to get in order. First, I had to decide how many actors I wanted in this film, and who I wanted them to be. I decided that I would star in the film, along with my friend Antwon, and would have my best friend Cyd, be a fill-in if Antown could not perform. I picked Antown because he has an awesome BMW that I wanted to feature in the film because it is going to be a Fast and Furious type movie opening. I wanted my film to have something to do with cars and I think Antowns car will be perfect for that. I don't think that I will go all out with costumes. If anything I want to coordinate an all-black dress code because it fits the action aspect of the film. Black is slick and mysterious but also can be classy. The props used will be two iPhones, two cars, a  grey BMW and a white Acura ILX. They both have a sports car type of look, and I think they will look good in the film. I have not decided on a date to...
