Weeks 6-7 Editing
Starting to Edit
During the first week of editing I had decide what software I wanted to edit on. I chose to edit my movie opener with iMovie because I have the most experience editing on there. Jess and I pieced together the best clips from filming, but ran into some problems during this process. Some of the clips from filming were way to short and I know I wanted to keep my opener short and sweet because it is an action movie opener. I did not want to give too much away, but I wanted enough film for the audience. I ended up having to chop up some of the scenes and sequencing them in different places of the film to make it seem longer. I added music and sound effects to make the opener more interesting. The idea of the opener was someone anticipating a text that lets them know its go time, followed with kind of a car chase. I tried to incorporate several different types of editing techniques like cuts and transitions but since I am still new to this, they are not perfect. While this was kind of fun to do, it was also challenging because I wanted to to be a certain way but found that with the film I had and the way I shot the scenes, that I was not going to come out the way I wanted to. With this being first time making an opener like this there is a lot for me to learn from but I had fun the first week editing.
Week Two/ Post Two:
Final Touches and Redo's
In the last days of editing, I worked on finishing touches and rearranging the order of some of the clips I considered filming a little more because I was a little unhappy with the film we captured during filming. I ran through the video a few times and still was unsatisfied so I ended up starting over and trying the clips in different order to see if I liked it, which I ended up doing like 3 times before I ended up with a final edit that I sorta liked. I was disappointed in myself slightly because during film week I was lazy and did not try my best to get clips and footage that fit the action vibe I was going for. Due to this, I ended up with a mediocre finished product. Again, I think I have a lot to learn from this, with one being not to rush the filming process till I am really satisfied with the footage. My favorite part during the editing was coming up with audio effects. In iMovie the audio effects are very limited so I had to get creative and either make my own using my phone or mouth and use those. Same with music, which I had to be careful with copyright about. Each week I spent about an hour to an hour and a half editing. Because I did not have a ton of footage to edit it wasn't a matter of how much I had to edit, it was more piecing it together to the final product I liked. While I did most of the physical editing, Jessica helped me with ideas and helped me through my breakdown lol.
Overall this was a fun project, and I definitely took it as a learning experience to editing and will look at what I did wrong here before making any new videos to learn from my mistakes and wrongs.
